The Art of Breaking Bread is more than a cookbook. David takes us on an extraordinary culinary journey. Bite by bite, he gives us an insight into his southern cuisine then and now. A mixture of personal reflection and a commitment to his Afro-American roots.

 

David E. Moore is an award-winning American singer, songwriter, and actor whose passion for cooking began at a very young age. His great-great-grandmother Birtie, a former slave from New Orleans, taught him to cook. In this autobiographical tribute to her, David has compiled some of his favorite memories and dishes that he would like to share with us. This includes recipes that have been spread from generation to generation for well over a century.

In 2020, David founded the company "Moore than Spice" with spice mixtures from Birtie's original recipe book. These spice mixes are used in some of the recipes in this book to bring the original taste into our homes. (But David mentions alternatives if you don't have the spice mixes.)

With video links to cook and sing along with, David's popular live show "Music, Meal & Moore" becomes a part of this cookbook. In this show format David combines his singing talent with his love for good food and his extraordinary sense of taste. After all, dining in communion also includes music.
